“ HORIZONS PASSING” ABOUT THE PAINTING and Figurine:
My father died years ago. The only place for me to sleep the night before his funeral was with my Mother, but on my Dad’s side of the bed.
I truly didn’t mind. I was near the window that faced a National Park; so knowing the morning would wake me to the sound of birds made me very comfortable.
I awoke to a sense of sadness all around me and heard everyone in the house screaming to get it out of the house! I looked over and my mother was not in bed, but all of a sudden the screaming in the house got louder and louder and through the bedroom door, a huge molting old bird squeezed his way into the bedroom hovering in the corner opposite where I was sitting up in the bed. He stared at me with tears in his eyes. I was overwhelmed by his sadness and didn’t know how to help…
He made his way over, little by little to the window I was near, and then it hit me that he needed to escape. I opened the window and backed away, all the while the sad stare in his eyes coming closer to mine. As he made his way closer to the window he was getting smaller in size and I could see energy returning to his once frail body…and when he sat upon the window sill he turned to say good-bye, he flew away, a gorgeous half man, half angelic bird.
He had transformed to what he needed to be and he flew to his known destination and out of my sight.
When I awoke I knew that was my Father telling me that he was OK.-s.wolk
This painting represents my experience with my Father waiting to tell me good-bye…and fare thee well to all fathers who know the familiar “Horizon’s Passing”….SHEILA WOLK
